iPad Cases: Tips for Choosing the Best One

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

After buying an iPad, you’ll need to buy a case to protect your investment. Finding the right case for your lifestyle will help keep your device looking new and in good shape. The key to getting the perfect iPad case is to buy the one that meets your personal needs the best.

If you take the iPad with you everywhere you go, a hard-shell case that provides the ultimate protection would be a wise choice. On the other hand, if you only use the iPad at home you wouldn’t need that much protection. Exploring your options will help you find the perfect case for you.

There are several different types of iPad cases available but there are five that seem to top the list as user favorites. Each one has its own special qualities that make it unique. Understanding what these are will help you decide which type would suit you the best.

  • Sleeves or Zipper Cases– Sleeves are the simplest and easier to use. These lightweight cases come in cloth and leather designs. They will protect the device from wear and tear when it is not in use. When you need to carry your iPad in your backpack, briefcase or book bag, this case will protect it from scratches. The iPad slips in and out of the sleeve easily. The zipper case zips up to ensure the device does not slide out when you’re carrying it around.
  • Snap-on Covers– The snap-on iPad covers are designed to protect the screen when not in use. This is not a full case that protects the whole device. They come in different colors and patterns and they’re designed to fold back to make a stand for easier viewing. These are a great choice if you plan to keep your iPad at home or rarely take it out.
  • Waterproof Cases– Several waterproof designs are available. If you enjoy reading from your iPad at poolside or if you walk to and from classes, work, etc, this case is an excellent one. It will ensure your device won’t get damaged if it accidently gets splashed with water or if you get caught in a rainstorm. It will also protect your device from dirt, drops and some even come with a built-in screen protector.
  • Hard Shell – These cases offer the best protection if you plan to travel with your iPad. They’re great for business trips, school or when visiting friends or family. There are many styles and designs to choose from so you can customize your iPad to suit your personality. Some just cover the back of the device and others have a screen protector. You can also find shock absorbent shells that have silicone padding on the inside to offer more protection from dropping.
  • Carry Cases – The carry case is a great choice if you travel often for business or pleasure. It makes it easy to transport your device while protecting it from scratches that can occur when traveling. It has separate pockets where you can keep your USB power adapter and other accessories.

You can use multiple cases for the ultimate protection. For example, you can opt for a hard shell case with a matching cover and a nice carrying case. This would protect your iPad from nearly any scratch or clumsy drop, which are the two main concerns when using a tablet.

By looking at your lifestyle and the things you need to protect your iPad from, you can pick a case or combination of cases that work perfectly for you.
